A Kickass Playlist for Running Indoors

Screen Shot 2016-01-23 at 3.52.11 PMI picked up running almost a year ago and have really enjoyed the challenge. It is very therapeutic to run along the river on a cool, crisp fall day or spend an evening surrounded by gently falling snowflakes. But once the bitter cold of winter hit I had to take my routine indoors, and that sucks. There is nothing more dreadful than spending 45 minutes running next to smelly strangers with nothing to look at but your flushed, red face in the reflection of the window in front of you while you try not to die. 

It is really hard to focus your attention when you have nothing to distract you. At least when I am running outside I can look at houses, watch the birds, admire the river current, etc. It helps the time go by much more quickly. Running on a treadmill, however, can feel like an eternity – this is where good music comes in. 

I used to stream Pandora while running but you have no control over what song will be played next and bad music can be just as distracting as no music. So the other day I spent about an hour compiling some fun, up-beat songs to run to.  It definitely helped push me through when all I wanted to do was quit:

This playlist is well over 45 minutes long but it gives me some variety if I want to skip a song or two. Plus, this list has a range of tempos which make it easier if I want to vary my pace. Nothing can make running on a treadmill fun, but a great playlist can at least make it a little more enjoyable.  Happy running!
